Shore Protection

New Hanover County provides shore protection services along the county's coast. There are several significant water resource infrastructure features within and along the county's shorelines, and the preservation and maintenance of these features is vital to the environment as well as the economy.

The Engineering Department's innovative work in maintaining the Carolina Beach Inlet was awarded a 2016 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award.
