Litter Management Division

Established by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners in September 2022, the Litter Management Division has a two-prong approach to reducing roadside waste in New Hanover County.

Litter Management Crew

Each day, members of the Litter Management Crew work to remove trash, debris, and materials from illegal dumping, with a focus on high-traffic, high-visibility roadways throughout the county. As of May 2023, the team has picked up approximately 77,000 pounds of trash in less than seven months.

Enforcing violations

As part of the creation of the Litter Management Division, a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputy has been hired to enforce laws, including citing vehicles for uncovered loads, littering and more.
